Monica Kalpakian is the founder of Miami-based Artvising, an exclusive consultancy service for the most demanding private art collectors in the world. Monica has been an art patron and collector for the last 30 years. She is also a founding member of Art Basel Miami, on the international council & acquisitions committee for Tate Modern, a board member and adulation committee for Bass Museum of Art, and sits on the board of Miami's Museum of Contemporary Art.
Throughout her career, Monica has worked closely with leading contemporary art galleries, artists, private dealers, auction houses, and institutions to establish relationships with an international network of artists, collectors, art insurers, shippers, appraisers, framers, conservators, experts, foundations, and scholars.
In this episode, Monica brings her insider knowledge to explore all things art and Miami's thriving scene. Dr. William G. Hardin lll was appointed Interim Dean of the College of Business from Florida International University in May of 2021. In 2020, Hardin was ranked No. 3 in the world for real estate research productivity from 2015 – 2019 by the Real Estate Academic Leadership (REAL) Author Rankings. Over the course of a 20-year academic career, Hardin has authored or co-authored 50 papers on topics including commercial real estate investment, foreclosures, corporate governance, residential real estate, and REIT financial structure.
Dr. Hardin joins us to discuss his recent study, The Housing Price Premium Associated with Charter Schools. This existing literature documents the relationship between public school quality and a residential real estate price premium. Hardin discusses how charter schools impact the residential real estate market here in Miami-Dade and Broward County areas. A key to follow is how the overall quality of a school determines this classification and why (8:00).

The Underline is revolutionizing the land below Miami’s Metrorail system and converting the space into an interconnecting ten-mile linear park, urban trail, and public art destination (5:29). The ten-mile space is set to span from its completed phase one located in Brickell Station, reaching the third and final phase for the last stop on Miami’s Metrorail, the Dadeland South station (12:29).
